“We were exploring a way, because the culture of the automobile
business tends to be
one where you do things based on attitudes and beliefs that go back
years and years
and are no longer valid.
“I didn’t know what I was after, but I knew there had to be a better
way to do business
and there had to be a better way to treat people. A lot of people
ask me, ‘Why were
you looking to an outside business to come into your business, when
you were already
one of the top producers in the automotive business?’ We were
probably 10th or 11th
in the state and 35th-36th largest Chevrolet store in the country. I
knew the
dealership had more potential for growth. I just wasn’t at a point
where I could take
my dealership to the next level.”
The Outcomes:
“We are now number one in the State of California and fifth in the
United States.
Before, we were selling an average of 2,000 cars a year, which is a
big story even
today. Four years later, with The Pacific Institute, we retailed
one-on-one over 5,500
units, new and used. It’s almost tripled our business.
